Hello, friends!

My name is Ashley and I’m so happy you’ve found your way to my blog, The Unaesthetic. I started this blog as an escape from my professional life which has left me feeling stuck since I came back from maternity leave. While this is likely due to a shift in priority, it is a creative outlet for me nonetheless. As I started working on it, I was reminded of my love for writing and realized I wanted to do more with it than just escape.

You see, I am very blessed to be able to take my daughter to work with me. For my job I work mostly alone and am a salary employee so, as long as the work gets done and maintains/exceeds the quality it had before, my boss was fine with her being there – thank the Lord! However, my “do it all” attitude wasn’t all it cracked up to be when work got busy and my baby still needed me. Suddenly I was torn because I felt like I couldn’t effectively do either job. It was clear to me which was MOST important but my husband and I aren’t in a place where a single income is an option (as is the case in many homes throughout the country).

Being the perfectionist I am yet not wanting to entrust my baby to others full-time, I was at an impasse…and now I am here, explaining this all out for you so you can see that I am as average as average can be. Just a mom who loves her baby and is trying to do it all.

In this blog, you will find exactly what social media doesn’t give – the UNaesthetic. All you see on various platforms is the put-together, perfectly planned, color-coded, cookie-cutter lifestyle that gets edited over and over before it’s posted. Me? I don’t have time for that. And, honestly, even if I did, that isn’t what I would do with my time. Again, the whole point of starting this blog in the first place was to be a present MOM! Here you will hear the truth (as I see it), the messy, and practicality of life, unfiltered. For all intents and purposes the UNaesthetic. Occasionally my life will be sprinkled in in the form of stories, book recommendations, or hot takes (when I need a moment on my soapbox).

My only hope is that you come as you are, read to your pleasure, and take something away (even if what you’re taking away is that you totally disagree with me).

I hate the term “safe space” but this space is meant for conversation which is an art I feel the world today has lost!

When I’m not blogging or working I am being a wife and a mother, trying to keep a low level of chaos vs an overflowing one, reading thrillers and then getting scared in my dark house, taking walks, or planning a vacation (in the Midwest, “vacation” could just mean a 3-hour trip to the closest “big city” vs a week-long international beach getaway (though we do those as well) just so you know!). Another common pass-time in our life is home renovations – *insert sarcastic woo here*

Please browse and enjoy – I’m sure there’s something that will speak to you! And, again, I’m just happy you’re here!

God Bless,

Ashley
